Takin’ that Maestro down the road apiece. Word.

Truth-in-titling: blues/roots maestro Taj Mahal will be issuing his first U.S. album in five years come Sept. 30 — Maestro (Heads Up) is the name, guest stars are the game, for pitching in with Taj are the likes of Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Angelique Kidjo, Los Lobos, Ziggy Marley and others who’ve all cited Taj as an influence.

Aw hell, he’s influenced everybody in AMERICA, and probably half the planet, too, in his 40 years of recording and touring.

Of the album, Mahal stated in a press release, “The one thing I’ve always demanded of the records I’ve made is that they be danceable. This record is danceable, it’s listenable, it has lots of different rhythms, it’s accessible, it’s all right in front of you. It’s a lot of fun, and it represents where I am at this particular moment in my life.”

He’s also announced an exhaustive touring itinerary that will kick off at the end of September and run well into November. BLURT has seen The Man several times and all we got to say is: Don’t miss him.
